Through lives experiences Jacqueline Zanders has been inspired and guided to set a community based project in her ‘backyard’. This autumn the Bio-dynamic Community Farm ‘Gardenup’ was created on her property in Boyup Brook, WA.

Jacqueline her heart desire to share was initially inspired by her experiences at a Bio-dynamic, curative daycare centre for physically and mentally deprived children in Belgium. The combination of living together and caring for each other according to the biodynamic practices have set and influenced the rest of her life. It was in this time that Jacqueline became an art and craft teacher. She set up Tom Thumb Creative Craft. (www.tomthumb.com.au)

When Jacqueline immigrated to Australia, it was a natural cause to set up a place where she could live and take care of her mother Jacky, who had been living here in Australia for over 30 years. Both ladies live at the property where Gardenup is located. Jacqueline also wanted to create a place here where her three daughters, living overseas, could join her, like her eldest daughter Dana did the past months.

Jacqueline feels very lucky to have found a property that gives her the space and the possibilities to grow fruit and vegetables in the bio dynamic ways.  She is highly aware of the importance of safe and healthy food. It is one of her missions at Gardenup to provide education on healthy and wholesome nutrition. Jacqueline is a passionate chicken breeder, Boyup Chook, incorporated in the fully certified Demeter farm. (www.boyupchook.com). The happy & healthy chooks pick their way around Gardenup, among the vineyard and orchards.

But Jacqueline, lovingly named Mama Chook, also appreciates that Gardenup is located on a walking distance from Boyup Brook. This means that not only the facilities of the community are near, but also that Gardenup is very easy accessible to the community, specially having the elderly and the children in mind.

The Boyup Brook community has been supportive of Gardenup from it's inception.
